Rico Kollmeier celebrated his return to the race track and together with Travis Linscome-Hatfield and Thomas Martin, earned the team’s third second-place finish of the 2023 season

After being away from the race team since April, for health reasons, Rico Kollmeier celebrated his return to the No. 14 Dallara LMP2 team this weekend for the 6 Hours of the Glen, Round 6 of the 2023 VSCA SportsCar Championship.

The German had missed the past two races at Laguna Seca and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, but showed that he didn’t miss a beat and opened up the race with a solid double stint.

After crashing in VR7UAL Pole Qualifying, the No. 14 Dallara P217 had to start from the rear of the LMP2 class grid, but eventually Thomas Martin managed to bring the team all the way to the race lead.

Leading five laps, the team eventually crossed the finish line in second place, but had to accept that championship leaders Trading Paints Racing were a little bit too fast to catch on this day.

Still, the team was more than happy with the race. Rico Kollmeier: “It was really good to see that we were able to race competitively and work our way to the front, after I crashed in qualifying. We knew, if we do it right, we have all the time in the world to get to the front.”

Thomas Martin: “It was fun to lead some laps. The 19 (Trading Paints Racing) was just a little too fast for us. But we can and should be proud of our performance. There were times in the race, where I felt we were the fastest. So we’re not far off. We’ll take this and keep working hard and try again at Belle Isle.”

Taking second place has also resolidified the No. 14 team’s position in the LMP2 championship standings, jumping up one spot from third to second, 227 points behind the leaders.

The team’s record after the first half of the season: Four top-tens in six races, including three top-fives.

“I’m really proud of the effort the guys put in. Everybody is working so hard. I know that we’re on the right path and eventually that win will come. But congratulations to the guys at Trading Paints. They once again ran a flawless race and are well deserved winners today.”, said team founder Benjamin Fischer.
